Acute pain refers to sharp or sudden pain, often brought about as a result of trauma, injury, or post-surgical recovery. Pain takes many different shapes and forms, but it’s important that it is properly resolved to ensure your pet is as comfortable as possible. Since acute pain management usually resolves in a matter of days, it is often most effectively treated with medications prescribed by your veterinarian. Medications can be specifically tailored to your individual pet’s needs and adjusted throughout the recovery process.
Chronic pain is often brought about as a result of long-term or chronic conditions, such as diabetes and arthritis. In these cases, the pain may only be manageable but unfortunately not curable. Because of this, it is often recommended that different types of treatments for effective chronic pain management are explored, rather than just the administering of medications. Our veterinarians work closely with owners to reduce your pet’s pain to an acceptable level. Managing chronic pain often includes treatments, such as laser therapy, some types of medication, or acupuncture.
